Screwed joint for two-part projectile housing - has radial slots in one part to relieve stresses during firing
摘要
A projectile has a housing which is made in two parts (24,20). The first part (24) has a cylindrical flange (26) with an external screw thread which is screwed into the end of the second part (20). When the projectile is fired from a gun, the acceleration imposed on the projectile causes a high stress in the region of this screwed joint with consequent distortion of both parts. This stress is reduced by making a number of equally spaced radial slots in the cylindrical flange. These slots extend axially as far as the shoulder (34). USE - Projectiles.
