Sealing joint between mains drain and house connection - involves resin-impregnated insert, placed into house pipe without excavation of ground

The watertight joint is formed at the junction of a mains drainage pipe (4) and household waste pipe (5) in an underground location. A satisfactory joint keeps the surrounding ground area free of unhygienic seepages and the ingress of earth will be prevented thereby preventing the mains drainage pipe from becoming blocked. A lining and mould component (1) is placed into the household waste pipe (5) at an inspection chamber or access point. The lining and a mould component (1) is pushed into the main drainage pipe (4) by means of a hollow pipe tube which is constructed of GRP. The lining and mould component (1) is now pulled back so that the tube section (3) is situated in the entry area of the household waste pipe. A pliable inflatable bag is also placed so that the sides of the bag expand to fill the spaces between the mains drainage pipe and the household waste junction. The lining and mould component is constructed of a fibrous woven material which is impregnated with a self hardening synthetic epoxy resin. The resin will now form the shape of the inside of the pipe connection and thus cause a satisfactory joint to be formed. The inflatable bag will then be removed. Provision is made for the use of liquid or gaseous filling in the bag to be activated through thermal reaction of the epoxy compound.
