PURPOSE:To insert a coated optical fiber by providing a liner whose external diameter is smaller than the internal diameter of a cavity part and such a cavity that the outward surface of a hole where the liner is inserted and the outward surface of a large-diameter hole connect with each other by a linear or curved surface. CONSTITUTION:The tip of a core pin 14 inserted into a metallic mold main body 21 consists of a thin pin 13 which is nearly equal in diameter to a coated optical fiber, a tapered part 15 which connects smoothly with the thin pin 13 of the core pin 14, the liner 17 having the hole 15 which holds the thin pin 13 and is nearly equal in diameter to the thin pin 13, a large-diameter part 18 which forms the cavity, the tapered part of the cavity, a thin-diameter part 18 where the cavity is formed, and a gate 22. Consequently, the thin hole of the tip of the ferrule is formed eccentrically with the outer periphery of the ferrule and the coated optical fiber is inserted smoothly. |
