The invention provides N-substituted carbamates of formula R - A - @ - OR<1> (I) in which R is a poly(olefin) polymer chain having an average molecular weight in the range 500 to 9,900; R<1> is a hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl group containing up to 20 carbon atoms; and A is derived from an N-substituted amino group in which the substituent is a hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl group containing up to 20 carbon atoms, their preparation and their use as fuel additives, particularly in gasolines.
