PURPOSE:To decrease friction resistance and the sliding resistance to a recording medium by using vitrified carbon which is specified in the pore size in spherical crystallites and apparent density as a slider material. CONSTITUTION:A thermosetting resin is molded to a prescribed shape and is dried; thereafter, the molding is heated to 1,000 to 2,000 deg.C in an atmosphere of an inert gas, such as N2 and Ar and is thereby precalcined, by which the gaseous components, such as H, N and O remaining in the molding are removed. The precalcined molding is then heated to >=2,050 deg.C and is applied with >=1,000atm isotropic pressure to compact the molding. The closed cells existing in the precalcined molding are thereby annihilated. The pore size in the spherical crystallites is reduced to <=30Angstrom and the apparent density is increased to >=1.8. The vitrified carbon having excellent surface accuracy is obtd. when such carbon is subjected to a polishing treatment. |
