<p>PURPOSE:To perform a retry process at a high speed by setting the tape speed at a low level when a retry enable error is detected and then setting the tape speed at a high level again after the end of the retry. CONSTITUTION:A reading action part 11 performs a reading action at a high tape speed between a streamer type magnetic tape device SMTU 3 and a host device 1. An end status analyzing part 13 analyzes the end status received from the SMTU 3 after the reading action. Thus a retry enable error is detected. Under such conditions, a tape speed instruction part 14 gives an instruction to the SMTU 3 to set the tape speed at a low level. At the same time, a back action part 12 moves a tape back to the position set before the block to be retried. Then the part 11 performs a reading action again. Thus the tape speed is set again at a high level when the retry succeeds and ends normally or the retry is repeated and the value of a counter 20 is set at 0. As a result, the retry processing speed is increased.</p> |
