PURPOSE:To accurately approximate a partial line drawing to a straight line by finding local features and large-area features from the curvature of the partial line drawing and deciding whether or not the requirements for linear approximation are met. CONSTITUTION:This system is equipped with a line thinning processing part 2, a segment division part 3, a curvature acquisition part 4, and a straight line decision part 5 and it is decided whether or not each partial line image meets the requirements for linear approximation according to local features found from the curvature of the partial line image and large-area features found from information on the direction of a segment at an end point. Consequently, unintended linear approximation is prevented from being performed and the linearization processing is accurately carried out; and multiplication processing which requires a long processing time is reduced greatly, so the processing is speeded up and simplified.
