PURPOSE:To perform color display by making transparent electrode films in an interdigital pattern correspond to filter films, obtained by arranging bicolor stripes by turns, in 1:1 proportion, and scanning laser light on two interdigital electrodes at a time. CONSTITUTION:On a glass substrate 20, a light-absorptive film 21, a light-reflecting layer 22, and a liquid-crystal oriented film 23 are formed and on the other substrate 20', a striped color filter 26, a transparent electrode 24, and a liquid- crystal oriented film 23 are formed. The transparent electrode 24 has an interdigital pattern; electrodes 24R for red color and electrodes 24G for green color cross each other in a comb shape and are insulated from each other. The color film 26 corresponds to the transparent electrode 24 in 1:1 proportion with the same pitch and width. A laser beam scans the bicolor transparent electrodes 24R and 24G at the same time; a part applied with a voltage becomes transparent and the other parts are in a scattered pattern, thus realizing bicolor display. |
