A planet pinion 12 is mounted upon a spindle 13 fast with a carrier 14 by means of an overhung sleeve 19, fast with the spindle 13, so that a space 18 is formed between the spindle 13 and sleeve 19 to allow the spindle 13 to flex under load. The arrangement may be applied to counter-shaft gearing, and a variable-speed epicyclic gear, Fig. 5, in which motors 324 drive through gears 322, 323 a sun-gear and planet carrier, a driven annulus 311 being secured to an output shaft. |
