PURPOSE:To prevent a deciding value from being rough and to prevent a reject rate from being increased by providing plural read data segment parts and discriminating data read by a corresponding sensor group. CONSTITUTION:A right or left read data segment part 5 or 6 is equipped with a right or left segment data table 5a or 6a storing the plural data in pattern positions determined in advance. The segment parts 5 and 6 segment only the data in the required pattern positions out of a data train, which is stored in a read data storing part 21, read by a paper sheet discrimination sensor group 2 based on the tables 5a and 6a. This digital data train is successively transferred to a discriminating means 10 and feature extraction is executed. Then, the extracted feature is compared with a reference pattern set in advance. The sensor group 2 is blocked so that a detection error can be made minimum in a normal state. Thus, the reject rate can be prevented from being increased without making the decision value rough at the time of recognition. |
