The exhaust gas turbocharger has a radial-flow gas turbine which consists of a turbine rotor (6) mounted in a housing (1). The turbine rotor is overhung from a bearing (5) and is separated from the bearing housing by a wall (8) of thermally insulating material. The rear face of the turbine rotor is provided with a circular ridge which fits with clearance in a recess (10) in the insulating wall. In the event of the bursting, the recess retains the fragments inside the turbine housing. ADVANTAGE - Improved protection.
