Brake for vertical movement of draughting machine - is actuated by any sudden movement of drawing board

The draughting machine has the drawing board mounted on a supporting column (2) which slides inside a vertical guide tube (1). The weight of the drawing board is normally supported by a gas spring. In the event of a failure of the gas spring the sudden fall of the drawing board (2) is prevented by means of a brake. The brake consists of an eccentric (3) fitted with a brake lining (4). A roller (6) with a rubbery tyre (14) is mounted on a bearing on the shaft which supports the eccentric. In the event of a sudden movement of the drawing board the roller (6) rotates relative to the coupling (7) so that the balls (11) are forced out of their sockets and press the coupling (7) axially against the eccentric (3) and sets it in rotation so that the brake lining (4) is pressed against the column (2) and holds it stationary.
