PURPOSE:To obtain the Mg base alloy having high hardness and high tensile strength and executable of extruding by adding two or more kinds of elements among Cu, Ni, Sn and Zn to Mg into a specified compsn. and regulating the crystals to fine ones. CONSTITUTION:The high strength Mg base alloy is constituted of fine crystals having the compsn. shown by a general formula: MgaXb. In the formula, X denotes two or more kinds of elements selected from Cu, Ni, Sn and Zn as well as (a) and (b) satisfy, by atom%, 40<=a<=95 and 5<=b<=60. The alloy can be obtd. by subjecting the molten alloy having the above componental compsn. melted by a melting furnace to rapid solidification into a thin strip. In the above compsn., when (a) and (b) lie in the range outside of the above, supersaturated solid soln. exceeding the solid soln. limit is hard to form, so that the alloy having the objective characteristics can not be obtd. by rapid cooling means. Furthermore, a part of X may be substituted by specified amounts of M (Al, Si, Ca) and/or Ln (Y, La, Ce, Nd, Sm). |
