In the prodn. of elastomer tubing a mandrel is used, on which the tubing is drawn for curing, after which the tubing is removed. The mandrel has one part whose shape at high temp. is that required for the prod. but at low temp. passes over to a stretched shape or can be stretched into such a shape under low loads. The mandrel is pref. a Ni-To alloy. ADVANTAGE - The prod. simplifies both drawing on to and off the mandrel. The tubing can consequently be made either manually or automatically.
