PURPOSE:To obtain an adsorbent with a specific surface area and higher adsorption function than an activated carbon while retaining advantage, hydrophobicity, of an activated carbon by calcining a mixture molding of a superfine amorphous silica and a small amount of a binder. CONSTITUTION:A silicon oxide-containing powder raw material S is thrown to a high temperature field at >=2300 deg.C achieved by combustion of a fuel F and O2 in a combustion furnace 1 to give a gas-phase silica. The gas-phase silica-containing combustion gas is led outside of the furnace and rapidly cooled by blowing a cooling gas (a) to give superfine amorphous silica and collect the silica by a collection apparatus 8. A small amount of a binder is added to the silica and the resultant mixture is granulated using a granulation apparatus 9 and the granulated material is calcined by a calcining apparatus 10. As a result, an adsorbent having adsorption function 2-4 times that of activated carbon while retaining advantage (easiness of regeneration), hydrophobicity, of an activated carbon. |
