PURPOSE:To enable miniaturization of the capacity of a heating device and atmosphere control device by providing a chamber inside a rolling stand. CONSTITUTION:In a method and device where a material is rolled while rolls 13, roll supports 10 and a material 27 to be rolled are heated in a vacuum or inert gas atmosphere, the rolls 13, roll supports 10, heating device 18 and heat insulators 9 are built in. Then the chamber 5 in which the vacuum or inert gas atmosphere can be kept is inserted inside the rolling stand 1 and, while loads that are generated in the screw-down and rolling direction when rolling are supported through the rolls 13, roll supports 10, heat insulator 9 and chamber 5, rolling is performed. Thereby, the equipment can be miniaturized and also the capacity of the heating device 18 and atmosphere control devices 21, 22 can be decreased. |
