The invention relates to a process and a device for finishing workpieces (1), in particular vehicle drive units, on a production line. The workpiece (1) has side faces (3, 11, 12, 18, 21) essentially parallel to a longitudinal axis (4) and front faces (7, 8) essentially perpendicular to said side faces. During the individual machining steps, it can be swivelled into a number of machining positions in which it can be fixed. To machine the side faces (3, 11, 12, 18, 21) and the regions (2, 5, 6, 20) of the workpiece (1) which are accessible from them, the workpiece (1) is conveyed, with its longitudinal axis (4) vertical, to the individual production stations, where it is swivelled about the longitudinal axis (4) into the required machining position, fixed and clamped. To carry out the process of the invention, the workpiece (1) is equipped with a special adjustment (adjusting holes (9) on the outer periphery of one front face (8) and on the circumference of a circle having its centre on the longitudinal axis (4) of the workpiece). The finishing process is cost effective, extremely flexible and suitable for large-scale mass production. |
