A burner for used oil has a combustion chamber (2) in which a burner insert (3) is fitted. The internal contour (5) of the insert (3) is such that the direction of flow of the incoming air from the duct (8) is reversed. This change of direction of flow causes the air to flow radially outwards through the gap (11) between the insert (3) and the end cover (10) of the combustion chamber, and then through the annular gap (12) between the insert (3) and combustion chamber wall. The insert (3) is held in place by spacers (7, 7a) fitted between its outer surface and the combustion chamber wall. These spacers (7, 7a) are so shaped and positioned that a swirling motion is imparted to the air as it flows through the outlet (14). USE - Burning of used oil.
