Light railway system with cabins on swinging axles - uses guidance by pairs of rollers on either side of overhead rail and alongside running rails

Each cabin (K) for 10 standing passengers has front and rear wheelsets (D1,D2) driven by motors (M) and pivoted about vertical axes (Z1) with lateral guidance by curve followers (F1,F2) at rail and roof levels. A solar cell arrangement (54) on the cabin roof (K6) provides emergency power to an on-board computer and radio telephone appts. by photovoltage conversion. The lower guidance tracks (4a,4b) follow straight or curved paths w.r.t. the running rails (3), and a corresp. overhead central guide rail (27) is supported by cantilever arms (23.1) from trackside masts (23). The drive motors are pref. AC async. motors, and the power supply includes an R-S-T 3-phase system. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for inner-city and suburban driverless rapid transit. Simple and adaptable construction suited to overhead, underground surface tracks utilises proven components and is secure against lateral forces, esp. wind pressure.
