The gripping units (4,5,6,7) also release the clamping flanges and the spindle housing can be moved into a transfer position. The tool changer (1) has two devices (8,9) held adjacent in a cage (48) movable together in the 'Y' direction, with gripping units (4-7) operated laterally in pairs, arranged respectively coaxially and at sides lying opposite to the 'Z' direction, and is fixed on a swivel base (10), which is held on a cross table (61) movable in 'X' and 'Z' directions. A computer (55) of the tool changer (1) works independently from the computer (56) for the grinding machine (100) and is programmed over a control desk (58) and an auxiliary desk (57), and the tool changer can be manually controlled over these desks. The swivel base (10) of the changer is not manually controlled from the desk (57). The computer (55) of the tool changer (1) is connected to the computer (56) by at least one data line and data regarding the wear of the grinding wheel or dressing roll can be exchanged. The two computers can be respectively connected with a data line with further computers. The gripping units (4-7) can consist of pneumatically operated centring chuck. USE/ADVANTAGE - Tool changer, esp. for grinding wheels and/or trimming rolls of grinding machines. Change over time shortened and facilitates location of grinding tools independent from grinding machine.
