The pneumatic spring cylinder (1) includes a cylindrical housing tube (2) which has both ends sealed by an insert (3, 4). A piston (14) separates the cylinder into two chambers (21, 22a) which are partly charged with a compressed gas. An axial collar (42) on one side of the piston provides the location for the internal end of a tubular piston rod (17). The latter end has an external annular groove (47) for a sealing ring (48). The piston collar (42) is then provided with a radial compressive deformation (49) which engages the piston rod annular groove to secure the piston rod end to the piston. ADVANTAGE - Improved piston rod seal w.r.t. piston without prestress during assembly.
