The one sided support for the servo piston (4) has different areas of pressure chambers (15,16) each side of the piston. The control valve (12) connects the servo pump and the pressure reservoir to the smaller-piston rod side of the piston to move the steering one way, while only the pump is connected to both sides to move the piston the other way, through the differential effect of the piston. The single piston rod link provides a simple servo steering mounting. The control valve operates differently in the two directions and operates by having a central core rotating inside a slotted shell.
