The system is used for the recovery of waste heat from the exhaust gas of an IC engine. It incorporates two chemically based heat storage units (2, 2`). - High temp. gases are led from the engine (1) to the first container of the first unit, which holds a reactant, and then to a second container holding a reaction-favouring medium, the resulting lower temp. gases are then led to the containers in the second unit, where further reactions take place.
