In order to measure coloured noise in assessing the quality of home video recordings, a video signal is recorded on magnetic tape using a VHS video recorder and then read off again, and the video signal read off is separated (BP) from the chrominance signal, demodulated (AM-D) and, following filtering (BF) and suppression of video recorder system errors by a comb filter (KF), measured using a measurement device (MG).
