PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER BRANCHING COUPLER

PURPOSE:To allow mass production and to reduce the cost of the coupler by joining a substrate part and cap part formed of a resin compsn. consisting of a polymer having optical anisotropy at the time of melting and a specific fibrous packing material by an ultrasonic welding method. CONSTITUTION:The substrate part and cap part formed of the resin compsn. consisting of the polymer which exhibits the optical anisotropy at the time of melting and the fibrous packing material having 1.0 X 10<-6>cm/cm/ deg.C coefft. of linear expansion area adhered by the ultrasonic welding method. This polymer (liquid crystal polymer) has the nature that the molecular chains are easily arranged in the deforming direction thereof by applying a shearing deformation or elongation deformation thereto in the molten state. This arrangement structure can be frozen by rapidly cooling and solidifying the polymer. The optical fiber branching coupler is produced with good reproducibility and at a high production rate in this way.
