In an inductively heated billet-container for an extrusion press having longitudinally extending conductor bars mounted in circumferentially spaced longitudinal bores 4 in the wall of a cylindrical jacket 3, overheating in the central part of the jacket is prevented by the interposition of electrically insulating material between the bars and the bores 4, the crosssection of insulating material being greatest in the central part of the jacket. Adjacent bars are connected together at their ends to form a zig-zag winding. In the arrangement shown the diameter of the bore 4 in the central section is greater than in the end sections. The space between each bore and conductor bar is filled with insulating material. Alternatively the diameter of each bore may be uniform whilst the diameter of the central section of each conductor bar is reduced. In another arrangement having uniform diameter bores and conductor bars each conductor bar is surrounded at its ends by conducting sleeves and at its central section by an insulating sleeve. |
