PURPOSE:To make the attenuation of respective color light beams nearly equal in quantity, and to improve the color balance of a display image by nearly equalizing three optical paths in length from a white light source to a light valve. CONSTITUTION:White color from the light source 1 is separated into blue, green, and red light beams by red- and green-reflecting mirrors 2 and 3, and those light beams are modulated by blue-, green-, and red-channel liquid crystal light valves 7, 8, and 9 and color-synthesized by a dichroic prism 10. Then the mirrors 2 and 3 are arranged slantingly and reflected light beams of blue and green are directed away from the valves 6 and 7 and reflected again by mirrors 13 and 14 to nearly equalize the distances from the light source 1 to the valves 7-9 to one another as to the respective color light beams. |
