A method for preparing N-alkyl-N-acylamine derivatives of formula (I) comprises dissolving an acetic acid derivs. of a cpd. of fomrula (III) in a solvent selected from toluene, xylene, benzene, chloroform, dichloromethane, etc., and reacting the resulting cpd. with an amine derivs. of formula (II) in the presence of a base and sulfonyl halide of formula R3SO2X. In the formulas, R1= a gp. of formula (IV), (V) or (VI); R2= -OCH, -CL or benzene; R3= alkyl or opt. substd. aromatic cpd.; and X= halogen atom. (I) are useful as germicides and plant growth regulators.
