PURPOSE:To detect the centroid position of a luminous point with resolution (p) times as high as that of an image pickup means by using the deciding circuits to output a centroid detecting signal and a picture guide address signal obtained by dividing a subject picture element into (p) sections. CONSTITUTION:A vertical deciding circuit 7 and a horizontal deciding circuit 20 compare the level of a subject picture element with the levels of front and back adjacent picture elements which hold the subject picture element between them. Then a centroid position detecting signal is outputted when the level of the subject picture element is higher than the levels of both adjacent picture elements. The difference of levels of both adjacent picture elements is detected and an address is calculated based on the difference of levels when the subject picture element is divided into (p) sections. Then the calculated address is outputted an intra-picture element address signal. A storage means 40 multiplies the addresses of the picture elements decided by both circuits 7 and 20 by (p), and the intra-picture element address is added to the multiplied addresses. Based on these added address value, the address of a frame memory 33 is designated and the centroid detecting signal is stored. As a result, the resolution is improved by (p) times at the centroid position with the resolution of an image pickup device kept as it is. |
