PURPOSE:To perform illumination control over many discharge tubes by one driving device by connecting the output of one current driving device to the discharge tubes through diodes. CONSTITUTION:The discharge tubes L101-L103 and driving device C101 are connected by the diodes D101-D103 and the output of the driving device C101 is cut off to cut off the discharge of the discharge tube L101 in discharging operation; and the driving device C101 is put in operation again after such a discharge off time that the discharge tube L101 does not start discharging again only with the output of the driving device C101 to apply the discharge tube L102 with a voltage V enough to start the discharge from a terminal 402, and then the discharge tube L102 starts discharging to illuminate. Similarly, the discharge tubes L101-L103 are brought under illumination control by the one driving device C101 in order. Thus, many discharge tubes L101-L103, and L201-L203 of the large-screen display device, etc., can be controlled by a small number of driving devices C101 and C201.
