A coin tester comprises a longitudinallyslotted coin shoot 1 surrounded by an induction coil 3 of an oscillator circuit 5 whose signal is temporarily changed by the passage of a coin, such that the acceptance of the coin depends on the change of signal. The tester identifies two different coin denominations, using two coils 3 and 4, connected to oscillators 5 and 6, and monostable multivibrators 9 and 10, respectively. Passage of a correct coin causes the corresponding oscillator to stop oscillating, whereupon its multivibrator supplies an extended pulse. The pulse from multivibrator 9 continues until the coin has passed coil 4, and the pulse from multivibrator 10 has at least twice that length. The former pulse blocks an inhibit gate 12, and is also differentiated at 14 and inverted at 15 so that the peak occurring at the end of the pulse reaches an inhibit gate 17 after the coin has passed coil 4. If gate 17 has not been blocked by the coin having stopped the oscillator 6 oscillating as well as the oscillator 5 the peak passes the gate to signal coin acceptance. When oscillator 6 is stopped oscillating it sends an accept signal through gate 12, unless it has been blocked by the coin stopping the oscillations of oscillator 5. The longitudinal slot (not shown) of the shoot extends from above coil 3 to below coil 4, and may be filled with insulating material.</p> |
