In a cooling system of LCD projector a compressor (6) compresses the refrigerant from a liquid reservoir (1), and supplies it into the case (36) of the illumination system of LCD projector in order to cool the interior of the illumination system. The refrigerant recovered radiates heat while it passes through a heat exchanger (20) and is collected again into the liquid reservoir (1). The illumination system case (36) with a lamp-change cover includes a upper buoyancy switch (17) for detecting the amount of the refrigerant and being installed near the lamp (16), a temperature sensor (50) to detect the temperature of the liquid in the illumination case, a open switch (23) at the end of the illumination system case (36), and a lower buoyancy switch (8) in a buffer (9).
