PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon monoxide removing agent effective at low concn. and low temp. by activating a carbonaceous raw material in the atmosphere contg. <= about 15% steam, cooling the material to <= about 300 deg.C and depositing about 0.1-10% palladium chloride on the material. CONSTITUTION:A carbonaceous raw material such as coal is activated in the atmosphere contg. <= about 15vol.% steam, and then cooled to <= about 300 deg.C in the same atmosphere. About 0.1-10wt.% palladium chloride is thin deposited, or the activated carbon is treated at >= about 500 deg.C in the gaseous nitrogen and/or gaseous carbon dioxide substantially free of oxygen and/or steam. The activated carbon is then cooled to <= about 300 deg.C in the same atmosphere, and about 0.1-10wt.% palladium chloride is then deposited to produce the carbon monoxide removing agent. A large amt. of carbon monoxide is very rapidly removed by this agent at a low temp. close to room temp., and the gaseous CO2 phase concn. is diminished to zero in a short time. |
