PURPOSE:To enable to lower fuel consumption of an internal combustion engine, by sucking and compressing liquid fuel adhered to an intake passage by means of a pump, and feeding atomized fuel thus separated to intake ports while ejecting droplets of fuel again into the intake passage. CONSTITUTION:Liquid fuel, adhered to an intake passage, for instance, to the bottom ' of an intake manifold 5, is collected at one or a plurality of positions by the function of gravity. The liquid fuel thus collected is sucked and compressed by a pump 6 and ejected into a separation chamber 11 via a discharge passage 10. Fuel atomized into fine particles in the separation chamber 11 is carried on air stream and distributed uniformly at distributing ports 13. Then, the fuel is carried to nozzles 15 formed in each intake port 4. On the other hand, fuel in the form of droplets is adhered to the inner wall surface of the pump 6 and atomized into fine particles when it is ejected again into the intake passage from a nozzle 14 at the intake manifold 15. Since the capacity of the pump 6 is selected to be much greater than the amount of liquid fuel adhered to the wall of the intake passage, air is also sucked from a restricted passage of air jet 9 and compressed by the pump 6, so that atomization of fuel at the nozzle 14 is promoted further through expansion of the compressed air. |
