PURPOSE: To give a good cutting resistance to the ionomer resin cover of thread- wound or two-piece golf balls by improving it with specific amounts of lithium and sodium ionomer resins. CONSTITUTION: This ionomer resin cover is made from lithium ionomer resin of about 50phr or more and sodium ionomer resin of about 10-50phr. The lithium ionomer resin is a copolymer consisting of 95-80wt.% ethylene and 5-20wt.% acrylic or methacrylic acid whose acid radical of about 10-90% is neutralized by lithium. The sodium ionomer resin is a copolymer consisting of 95-80wt.% ethylene and 5-20wt.% acrylic or methacrylic acid, whose acid radical of about 10-90% is neutralized by sodium. The golf ball cover is made by molding a cover stock around the core. |
