PURPOSE:To efficiently oxidize harmful gases such as CO and formaline by an oxidation catalyst by forming the catalyst from >=1 kind of noble metal among Pt, Pd, Ir and Rh besides Sn and specifying the surface coverage rate of Sn. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind of noble metal among Pt, Pd, Ir and Rh is coated with Sn at 10-90% surface coverage rate to form a catalyst for oxidizing and decomposing harmful gases such as CO and formaline. The blacks of the Pt, Pd, Ir and Rh constituting the catalyst can be formed by the electrolysis of the solns. of their chlorides. The blacks are cleaned by dil. sulfuric acid, Sn is deposited on the surface of the blacks in an electrolyte contg. an Sn compd., and then the black is washed with water in an inert gas atmosphere. The blacks are further dried at <= about 100 deg.C to obtain the harmful gas oxidation catalyst. |
