PURPOSE: To improve transfer concn. (transfer efficiency) per unit laser input energy by using a trinuclear cyanine dye as an infrared absorbing substance and making it exist in a dye layer. CONSTITUTION: A dye-donor element for laser-induced thermal dye transfer comprising a support having a dye layer and an infrared-absorbing material which is different from the dye in the dye layer on the surface is provided and the infrared-absorbing material is a trinuclear cyanine dye and they exist by a concn. of 0.05-0.5 g/m<2> in the dye layer. When a sublimating dye is used in the dye layer of the dye-donor element, good result is obtd. Amt. of coating of the dye is 0.05-1 g/m<2> and the dye is pref. hydrophobic. In addition, the dye is pref. dispersed in a polymer binder and as the polymer binder, e.g. cellulose acetate hydrodiene phthalate, cellulose acetate, etc., are cited. Amt. of coating of these binders is 0.1-5 g/m<2> . |
