<p>There is provided an integral textile composite (1) which fabric comprises a substrate portion (2) having at least one organic textile fiber layer (3) and an insulating portion (6). The insulating portion (6) has at least one inorganic fiber layer (6a) which is substantially co-extensive with the organic fiber layer (3), and at least one insulating layer of insulating material (6b) which is substantially less than co-extensive with the inorganic fiber layer (6a). A plurality of first needled stitches (10) composed of organic fibers from said organic fiber layer (3) of said substrate portion (2) are needled in and disposed at least substantially through the insulating portion (6), while the inorganic fibers of the inorganic fiber layer (6a) in the insulating portion (6) are substantially undisturbed. The number of said stitches is sufficient that the insulating portion (6) is substantially non-detachable from the substrate portion (2) and the substrate portion (2) is essentially free on its outer surface (5) from inorganic fibers from the inorganic layer (6a) or insulating material from the insulating layer (6b) of the insulating portion.</p> |
