The ignition device ensures precisely timed ignition processes by spark plugs (30, 31, 32, 33) in the combustion chambers of an internal combustion engine and provides an optimal supply of ignition energy for the relevant operating mode. To this end, it comprises a transistor ignition (36) which can execute a joint program for all spark plugs (30, 31, 32, 33), which supplies ignition energy repeatedly during each ignition process, and which is connected in series to high-voltage capacitor ignition devices (44, 45, 46, 47) associated with the individual spark plugs. |
