<p>In this mode of high-speed transport, the load consisting of the passenger cabin or passenger or goods vehicle is suspended by a fast-action locking system from a small-section motor unit. The latter, piloted by a central computerised controller runs in a hollow, self-supporting inverted U-girder of composite materials. The girder which supplies the motor with its motive power and the passengers with remote-control means, is suspended from gantries, whence a need for little ground area and the clearance of natural obstacles. Unlike discontinuous conventional transport systems, this one is designed to operate at saturation level of the bearer girder, whence considerably increased efficiency. With directional traffic, the motor units do not return light but are carried as freight by motors which have already made the outward journey.</p> |
