An image forming apparatus using an ink sheet, which is constituted of mechanisms (1, 2) for transferring the ink sheet, mechanisms (5, 6, 7, 8) for regenerating the ink sheet, and mechanisms (10, 11) for forming an image by use of the ink sheet. The regenerating mechanisms (5, 6, 7, 8) may be disposed on either the upstream or the downstream side of the image forming mechanisms (10, 11) along the direction (4) of the ink sheet transfer. The ink sheet may be an endless sheet. Various operation sequences can be employed in order to insure the regeneration of the ink sheet. They include the transfer of the ink sheet by a predetermined distance while regenerating it, or the transfer thereof by a suitable distance while fixing the ink on the ink sheet at the time of turn-on of the power switch, at the time of reset, at the start of image formation, at the end of image formation, and at the time of turn-off of the power switch. |
