An actuator valve 14 for operating the flaps of an aircraft has an operating lever 9 movable about a pivot 21 by a lever 11, and linked to the valve at a point 13 spaced from the pivot 21 and the point of application of the lever 11, the pivot 21 being normally held in position in an eyemember 18 by a plunger 16 which can yield under excess load, e.g. if the valve 14 jams, and permit the lever 9 to pivot freely about the point 13. Plunger 16 is loaded to maintain the pivot 21 in the base of a V-shaped slot in the member 18, by a light spring 22, and fluid under pressure from an accumulator 27 passing into a recess 26, and passages 24, 25 to the end of the plunger. Upon overloading, plunger 16 is moved backwards to cut off the pressure fluid, and connect the end of the plunger to drain, the plunger being held back by the pressure fluid to allow pivot 21 to move freely with a support 12 in the eye member 18. A pressure gauge 31, or a pressure sensitive switch can be connected to the space 24, to indicate yielding of the plunger. In Fig. 2,.not shown, the lever (35) is pivoted on a block (39) kept in position by two plungers (43), and (44), and a further isolating valve (58) maintains an actuator valve (38) connected to pressure and drain as long as the plunger (43) is pressurized. In Figs. 3a and 3b, not shown, a double acting fluid-pressure actuator (65) is controlled by two pairs of actuator valves (73), (74), (75) and (76) operated by levers (78), (79), (85), (83) respectively, in response to rocking movement of a lever (85) and each maintained in position by a plunger (92). The system also includes isolating valves (94) and by-pass valves (99). |
