A pneumatic amplifier comprises a housing 1, 2 with a diaphragm 3 having one side 5 exposed to input pressure and the other side 4 to output pressure, and inlet and exhaust valves 11, 12 operated by actuators rigidly connected to a support 19 provided on the diaphragm. When the input pressure increases, the diaphragm is depressed to open the valve 11 and allow air to flow from an inlet 7 to an outlet 6 and a pneumatic device until the input and output pressures are again equal. A fall in input pressure causes the diaphragm to be lifted and the exhaust valve 12 to open until equilibrium is restored. In an alternative embodiment, downward bias is provided by the diaphragm itself, instead of by a spring 22, the inlet is in the lower part of the housing and the exhaust valve is in the form of a spring strip or cone separate from its actuator. |
