<p>A catheter (12) having an ultrasound transducer (16) and associated electrical wiring (17) conducted through a sidewall thereof and a plurality of optical fibers (14) provided in the lumen (13) of the catheter for conveying laser light from an external laser source (1) to the tip of the catheter. The laser irradiation is angularly emitted from the tip of each optical fiber. The ultrasound and the laser are connected to a computer system (3) which is used to display ultrasonic images of internal tissue areas within the patient's body and control firing of the laser in response to delimiting input from the physician.</p> |
