<p>Large earthmoving vehicles require complex mechanism for mechanically driving the auxiliary power units. The subject drive mechanism (18) includes an elevating transfer gear train (78) at the rear frame portion (14) of the vehicle (10) that drives a rear auxiliary power unit (104) via an upper transfer gear (88), and that drives a front auxiliary power unit (100) on the front frame portion (12) of the vehicle (10) through a relatively long drive shaft system (98) extending from the upper transfer gear (88). A torsionally tuned spring coupling (22) having a plurality of compression spring sets (208) arranged in at least two circular arrays is incorporated between the engine (20) and an input gear (80) of the transfer gear train (78) for providing two stiffness rates and effectively isolating the drive mechanism (18) from the torsional excitation pulses of the engine (20) and the effects of gear shifting of an associated transmission (46) for powerably driving the vehicle (10).</p> |
