The steel cable drive with a wedge profile is used to transmit large peripheral forces, esp. for continuously variable transmissions. The steel cable drive consists of one or more steel bands (1) wrapped around braided cord (2) and/or cord or wire bands (3,4). The braided cord and bands are embedded in an elastic material and are held between the steel bands (1) and reinforcing strips (6) by connecting pins (5). ADVANTAGE - The drive has increased strength, without increasing wear on the pulleys.
