Applicator roller for coating low viscosity adhesive on foil - carries specified intersecting spiral grooves on its surface

An application roller has been devised for coating foils contin-uously with low-viscosity material, e.g. adhesives, dispersed or emulsified in water, with a viscosity of 40-70 cP for the mfr of adhesive tape. The roller receives on its surface two gps. of opposite-hand spiral grooves which have been engraved across the width of the roller. The application roller (3) runs in a tray (14) with an inflow and an outflow for an aqueous acrylic dispersion or emulsion adhesive. It is contacted by a coarse and a fine adjustable scraper. The foil (PVC or PP) is guided through the roll gap (6) between this roller and a smooth counter roller (5). The engraved pattern (112) on the surface (111) has spiral grooves (113) of trapezoidel cross-section with a min. depth of 0.4mm, a min. base (B) of 1mm and an angle of the flanks of 20 deg. ADVANTAGE - This distributes such low-viscosity adhesives in adequate quantities and evenly continuously and in one operation.
