<p>A transparent counterelectrode in an electrochromic device constituted of a transparent support, an electronic conductor thin film which is transparent and colorless, a thin film made of an electrochromic material, an electrolyte, a counterelectrode, another electronic conductor in thin film form which is transparent and colorless and an other transparent support, the counterelectrode is a cerium oxide-based mixed oxide. Replacement of cerium atoms with other element with smaller ionic radius, for example, titanium, tin or germanium has the effect of increasing the lithium diffusion rate in the material, thus increasing the kinetics of the reversible insertion/extraction reaction of the lithium in the counterelectrode and, at the same time, conserving the transparency in the oxidized and reduced states. The so constituted electrochromic device shows a good transparency in the uncolored state and a high contrast due to the good kinetics of this new counterelectrode material.</p> |
