<p>A double-walled vessel (10) for containing fluid (16), the vessel having an annular space (13) between the walls (11) (12) wherein a compressed gas at a pressure higher than any pressure in the inner vessel is maintained, the vessel including means to sense the escape of gas from the annular space (40) (46) by such means as decrease in its pressure or flow of gas from a replenishing source (17) and means to sense the presence of the compressed gas in the inner vessel by such means as increase in pressure (50), sensing the composition of the compressed gas within the inner vessel (58) or sensing an increase in flow through a vent (59), whereby leakage through either the inner vessel wall (12) or the surrounding outer wall (11) is detected and the escape of contained fluid from the inner vessel is prevented.</p> |
