PURPOSE:To impart an excellent light resistance to a cyanine dye having a specified color cation by combining the color cation with a quencher anion, thus stabilizing the cyanine dye. CONSTITUTION:A cyanine dye having a color cation of formula l or II (wherein phiand psi are each a heterocyclic residue for forming a cyanine dye, provided that the case where both phi and psi are residues of indolenine rings which may have fused aromatic rings is excluded; and L is a polymethine bonding group for forming a cyanine dye) as a color part is prepared. By combining the color cation with a quencher anion, the cyanine dye is stabilized against light. Particular examples of the quencher anion include a compound of formula III (wherein M is Ni, Cu or the like; and R<1>-R<4> are each H, an alkyl or the like), and a compound of formula IV (wherein R<5>-R<8> are each an alkyl or an aryl). |
